AHA BLS INSTRUCTOR COURSE

This course covers how to plan and prepare for courses, instructing courses, conducting written exams (if applicable), skills practice and skills testing and how to keep your instructor status current. This course includes approximately 7 hours of information about instructing AHA courses, followed by course-specific information. Continuing education credits (CEU’s) are awarded depending on the individuals’ specific discipline.

Requirements and Steps For Becoming an AHA Instructor

BLS Instructor students are required to provide the following:

REQUEST THE TRAINER PACKET TO ENROLL

  • Acceptance to align with Babcock Health Training center or approval from a training site as documented by the completion of Instructor Candidate Application
  • Current  AHA BLS Provider Card
  • Completion Certificate from BLS Instructor Essentials Course
  • Successful completion of BLS Skills Check during the instructor course
  • Successful completion of Written Test, 84% or greater (In-class)
  • Teach  one BLS Provider Class or Megacode session with successful monitoring by our Faculty BLS instructor within 6 months of completion date of instructor class.

BLS Instructor manual and provider manual are required for entry into the classroom.

ACLS Instructor students are required to provide the following: ​

  • Letter of Recommendation of training center faculty (TCF), regional faculty or training center coordinator
  • Acceptance to align with Babcock Health Training center as documented by the completion of Instructor Candidate Application
  • Current BLS Provider Card
  • Current ACLS Provider Card
  • Complete online pretest, found at www.heart.org/eccstudent (Password at bottom of 2nd pg of ACLS Provider Manual)
  • Completion/test scores printed from pretest
  • Completediscipline-specific Instructor Essentials Course
  • Completion Certificate from Instructor Essentials Course
  • Successful completion of BLS for ACLS Skills Check during the instructor course
  • Successful completion of Airway Management Skills Check during the instructor course
  • Successful completion of Megacode Skills Check during the instructor course
  • Successful completion of Written Test, 84% or greater (In-class)
  • Teach in ACLS Provider Class or Megacode session with successful monitoring within 6 months of date of instructor class

PALS Instructor students are required to:

  • Letter of Recommendation of training center faculty (TCF), regional faculty or training center coordinator
  • Acceptance to align with Babcock Health Training center as documented by the completion of Instructor Candidate Application
  • Current BLS Provider Card
  • Current PALS Provider Card
  • Complete online pretest, found at www.heart.org/eccstudent (Password at bottom of 2nd pg of PALS  Provider Manual)
  • Completion/test scores printed from pretest
  • Complete discipline-specific Instructor Essentials Course
  • Completion Certificate from Instructor Essentials Course
  • Successful completion of BLS for PALS Skills Check during the instructor course
  • Successful completion of Airway Management Skills Check during the instructor course
  • Successful completion of Megacode Skills Check during the instructor course
  • Successful completion of Written Test, 84% or greater (In-class)
  • Teach in A PALS  Provider Class or Megacode session with successful monitoring within 6 months of date of instructor class

PALS Instructor manual and provider manual are required for entry into the classroom. 

All Student Must:


  • ​Attend and successfully complete the Instructors Essentials Course online
  • Have a current AHA BLS Provider card
  • ALL instructors must be monitored once within six months of completing the classroom Instructor Course before teaching a course on their own.


The American Heart Association requires ALL instructors to be registered and confirmed (aligned) on the AHA Instructor Network. Aligning on the AHA Instructor Network will allow the Instructor to obtain and use the Instructor ID# that is required on all course completion cards.
